12 bands, 12 songs, and a whole lot of Rumors

We were given the opportunity to perform our own take on Don’t Stop at an exceptional Fleetwood Mac Celebration Evening (11/04/2013) at The Good Ship, Kilburn.

Initially listening to the song on repeat until almost insane, we then took a month’s break where we refused to play it. After this sad period of Fleetwood Mac abstinence we stripped away everything from the original masterpiece, slotting a few repetitive loops and lines back into place.

In the comfort of our favored minor key, we found that we could put a bit of spin on some of the lyrics… perhaps more in keeping with the well documented complexities that came out of Fleetwood Mac’s antics at the time. It sounded a lot like this:

How does it compare to the original?

The rest of the acts that played gave the Fleetwood Mac Celebration Evening a real festival feel, and the venue was ideal. The balcony area was reserved for musicians who hectically tuned their instruments between songs. Give Blood’s Don’t Stop seemed to divide the punters: section A listened in apparent bemusement whilst section B seemed to appreciate the bizarre rendition of one of their favorite songs. Section C was at the bar.

Type Two Error @ Power Lunches - Live Music Review

As the Sunday sun set on Power Lunches and the buildings cast long dusty shadows across the pavement, three men, instruments slung over their shoulders, emerged from the mist…

NO. This is not going to be one of those bullshit reviews.

Sunday (07-04-2013) saw a blistering set of melodic alternative tunes from Type Two Error, a new three piece with an illusive sound… you can’t yet listen to this lot online, and although that will all change soon, it meant that the audience at Power Lunches was treated to an intimate feast of new music.

Type Two Error are fronted by guitarist and haunting vocalist Ben (whose voice you will surely remember from his Cooper Temple Clause days). The sound is underpinned by the classy bass and synth lines of Keiran, and an emphatic percussion section managed by Jonny.

They started strong with jagged guitar riffs and well-rehearsed stops, dropping inevitably into rip-roaring choruses with sing along vocals. Just when you thought you had it sussed, Type Two mixed it up with loud and quiet, building progressively and even at one point switching round the lineup as drums were replaced by machine.

I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more from these guys soon - Give Blood are dead chuffed to have roped them into playing on the night. Stay up on future Type Two Error events via facebook OR if you prefer to know what they’re having for breakfast twitter is surely your tool!

Rryrry’s unique blend of atmospheric experimental music opened the night. Swinging his Rickenbacker from side to side and screaming when required, the highlight was original track The Violence Within Us which is taken from his latest EP entitled ‘Alexander Lemming’ and other songs. Quite the musician, you need to go to the rryrry (aka Harry Perry) soundcloud to get the full picture.

Give Blood provided the meaty filling to this sandwich of an event, playing a 30 minute set. We’re not into writing our own reviews so have a listen and make up your own mind. If you like it, make sure you rock on down to our facebook page and show your appreciation.

Give Blood is Jonny Garrill and William Bembridge, two former art students from London. The band, previously known as Rhythm, has been going for some time, but the sound has been undergoing a radical change in the past year.

The last set of shows were performed almost two years ago and included well supported events at Catch, The Macbeth, The Square and more. The band, then a four piece was whittled down to two as members finished university and moved away.

Now consisting of vocals, guitars and live electronics, old songs have been transformed and new material merged to create a unique sound that we hope you will enjoy in 2013.
